SIDEBURN - "IV Monument"

Now that labelling some type of music as STONER is lost over in time, SIDEBURN's "IV Monument" is one of the lots of albums that came to unmask this classification at the expense of hard-rock, blues, doom or just ROCK.

In the present case, "IV Monument", impressive vocals imprint a definite hard-rock style on the record that, together along with a variety or tempoes thru different songs, makes you listen to a more classic rock oriented album than a so-called stoner one. You may find some other styles in the orbit, depending on your background... and age. ;)

The awesome skills of this band (are you a lover of guitar solo stuff? Then you have a new idol: Mr. Morgan Zocek) were well-known by us since their beginning and we always hoped they could last forever: this album confirms they're not outta shape. And we're very happy to see this as I still remember fondly a bunch of bands excited us when we received their stuff back when NOIZELAND started: SIDEBURN, DOZER, UFOMMAMUT, just to name a few...

If you're not into swedish SIDEBURN, you have now the chance to get into this great band.

New TAO TE KIN is another outstanding album. After four years, "Cuaderno de bitácora de un viaje aún por hacer" ("Vessel LogBook of a voyage yet to be done") sees the light and after all these years that won't mean this will have a lack of the good ol'things this amazing band made us all to be used to due to the hard work the band carried out for this; their new baby.

Common danger in bands like TAO TE KIN lies beneath the aim of twist what it is already twisted. And by a mechanic simple simile, overtorquing something already tight, will shear up to  be torn apart. Certainly, we all know good bands who tried this and ended busted after that. Some of them try to return, but that will never be the same most o'times.

This is not the case: this amazing band stays in the shadows where only a few dare to be in... and they feel confy without the idea of abandoning that warm'n'tiny place.

Lyrics are still twisted without being devious. That is a maxim in TAO TE KIN's songs, keeping the essence of the election of the name.

This is not an album for a fast listening or a "love at first heard" one. If you're in a rush, forget it and try MTV. But that doesn't mean it won't catch you even since the first spin. Melodies will embrace you like a giant serpent while you try to disembowel every meaning lyrics you're listening can offer to your imagination. In some moments, you can be amazed how same tune looks to be evolving in front of you... listen to be believed.

Maybe you can extract a "best song" but I will not recommend you any specific track as the album must be listened as a whole before your verdict is outta yer soul.

One of the things I'd remove from this record are some jazzistic passages... but that's because I've never been into jazz neither enjoyed it... and go figure if you tell a good musician not to play anything that improves his skills... got it? and yes: I'm a redneck!!!!!

Of course, particular statement deserves their live performances: pristine!!! In fact, this saturday there will be the release party of this new album that for sure will satisfy everyone there as much as always.

Close the door, switch off any comm device, sit down, relax, push play and enjoy the trip.

Ok fellows: let's create a new potion today for you to enjoy the underground scene...

Take your melting pot (or steal it to your neighbourhood's witch... there is always one even though you don't know it) and drop 7 parts out of ten of ORANGE SUNSHINE (on vinyl... only vinyl, dudes).

Let it marinating for a while and just when you see it's boiling, add remaining 3 parts of the whole ten with early ELECTRIC WIZARD's stuff. We got the formula dudes!!! You got OLD ONE!!!!

These guys are a duo from Kentucky which deliver obscure 70'd flavoured riffings in a 4 tracks CD (first track out of five is an intro).



That makes me go to those times when I discussed long ago with people about what it was not tolerable into rock. One of the issues discussed sometimes was how can a band be only a duo... some performed the opinion these kind of acts can never survive... and once again I demonstrate they were wrong. These guys will make you forget they're only two in the same way BLACK COBRA or OM do when they perform their stuff. And just think about the stupid fact of how easy can be to get on well each other... at least, easier among three or more people!!!
