Live review: KYLESA, CTTS & KEN MODE

With a poster with names like KYLESA, CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE and KEN MODE it was expected a good turnout, and it certainly was. But it was not acceptable only a few people were there at the opening watching and enjoying best band out those three names: KEN MODE.

Yes: they performed their set of kicks and it was simply awesome. Take TAD and MELVINS all together, add a little bit of metal (I said "little bit") somewhere and you will have a picture.

Some of the few they were at the beginning expected nothing about them, mostly due to ignorance of their existence (this is not an insult taking into account those million bands you can find everyday surfing on The Net), but since yesterday, they won't forget KEN MODE. That was a fact as people's opinion sounded out around by us when instruments got in silence.

You could watch attitude, power, heavy sounds and a bunch of good songs didn't disappointed us who mainly went to see'em.

From our point of view, they were the best on stage yesterday night because the other two bands got their own cancers. Namely: CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE and their technical/ experimental resources indigestion and KYLESA and their own way to understand exploration into other musical genres.

CTTS made it good. They transmitted their energy but soon their twisted melodies misleaded the listener out of that enjoyment. And that's another fact that is widely on the table subject to debate: why the fffffff are many bands twisting to the bone their melodies just for the sake of it? Is this only to show how good they can handle their axes? In that case, unfortunately they will be listened only for a while... bye bye, musical career. Just to end CTTS words: they have to realise people return to the rhythm of the song when the "insistent/ monotonous/ repetitive/ tiresome/ whatever" riffs come back out of the loudspeakers... cannot be blind for that.

KYLESA's case is somewhat different. When an underground band reaches certain grade of popularity they enter into a room of decissions that sometimes are senseless. I can understand after the years, musicians grow up to different levels affecting their inspiration... but it's clear when you have a popularity due to your own way to feel music it becomes a suicide to change it. That's why side bands are for!!!! Jokes appart, above mentioned behaviours are not bad in essence but it's gotta be a main warning for any band to balance their new steps.

KYLESA's new stuff is not bad at all but it cannot be compared to their early material, which they save for their last songs of the live set.

We will talk again about KEN MODE soon, here in NOIZELAND.
So better watch this space, as always.

BUGGIRL live

Today is a good day: yesterday night I saw BUGGIRL live. And it was a blast!!!!

This couple of people delivered pure raw energy in everything they did. BLOOD SWEAT & BEERS describes the whole set...

There were balls in the stage and they were not only drummer's ones. They (brother and sister) deal with their AC/DC-Motorhead-ie way to understand rock with astonishing sassy manners to the point makes you forget about that thing you thought when they started to play ("Where the hell is bass player hidden?") in case you weren't aware they were a two piece band. Yeah... PARTY!!!!!!

There were problems with a pedal (sounded like its electrical contact) but Amber solved the problem with authority and without any kind of frustration... and this an A+ 'coz remember they are only two!!!!!!! Clinno made his job and even some could think it was part of the track...

I can say Amber has to try some soul vibe tunes as his voice is one of the best female fronted rock band voices I've heard.

To be honest, they look healthy enough that makes me forget their long European tour is climbing on their backs day after day... and the touring punishment since years they're exposing themselves!!!!

There is more attitude in this Australian act than an AC/DC tour convoy driven by Lemmy Kilmister high on bourbon... Thanks, pals for being like you are and remember: don't change!!!

Find their stuff at IMPEDANCE Records before it's sold out!!!!

MORGANA vs MORGANA + TAO TE KIN + TINNITIA Live

Sorry guys that I missed TINNITIA (yeah! I was late... but it is not easy for me to be on time everywhere!!) but they always deliver their stuff in the best way so next time I will corroborate what I was told: they kicked ass!!!

Following TINNITIA, TAO TE KIN took up the stage... and everything flowed easy as they are more than happy with their release of "El Pájaro Que Da Cuerda Al Mundo" (Lengua Armada. REF: LA036 / Nooirax Producciones): a beautiful CD including a 12 page booklet which will trap you since the intro until the last second of their tenth track. Their set is furious and relaxing at the same time. That is the feeling you catch when TAO TE KIN distil their progressive way to understand metal.

It could be obvious to mention TOOL as the imminent reference but it shouldn't be understood as a clone of them: it is better to understand TOOL opened a big two folded door inviting others to enter that world of sounds... how many new rooms can be filled when going beyond that door? TAO TE KIN reserved their own one... and I believe they will be there for long releasing more good stuff like what they're been doing all of these years.

Their live is filled will color (sometimes overcolored) by the personal performance of their frontman Emilio which does not stop for a while: watching molecules in the air, giving shape to oxygen figures, fighting with the flow of air in front of him, jumping... that's a frontman. Meanwhile, the band do their job: punish your ears with the chosen tunes of their past and present history.

It was short: that's the problem when you play in a medium hall which is surrounded by homes and there is a restriction of not to pass 12:00 PM playing loud... and of course it gets shorter when you're enjoying a live set!!!

TAO TE KIN left the stage to allow MORGANA vs MORGANA start their presentation of their brand new record "SOL INVICTO" here in Madrid. In my opinion, there couldn't be other band to support them like TAO TE KIN as they evolve very similar status into the underground... Their difference (they're a five piece too) could be more in the attitude of their singer Carlos which doesn't explore acting in the same way as Emilio. Let's say excess of the other could help this last one...

Another short set (law requirements command!!) was shown, intense, closed with the encore peforming one of their banner songs "NEBULA".

Both records and can be purchased thru following sites:
