Walls Of Mystery - Walls Of Mystery

Great self released work from this greek act with 15 cool tunes, no less.
Basically, WoM can be filed on stoner but this wouldn’t be fair for them and even for you: their sound is more “good ol’rock” flavored and voice transports you to ol’rock’n’roll bands; Hammond spiced “Take a Chance” or “End of Time” are an example; Slow “Scissor Tongue” will put you into a big hangover after a train of shots of bourbon in a far west saloon; “Harmless Axe” comes to mind early rock songs of Saint Vitus in the beginning; the same with “Another Deaf Season” but this spell brokes itself when a piano appears on scene. It fits perfect in the song, anyway.

Gypsy Son” is a typical riff tune you cannot resist to listen to the end, though I’m sure you’ve heard similar ones before.

But this album is not perfect, to be a bit critical with my greek friends: “City Clown” is not into my likes… organ results a bit annoying though it’s clearly givin’ the circus attrezzo to the song…

If you try to guess where the heck they come from, you’ll never get right because they sound, both voice and instruments, like if they were truly 70’s southern rockers. You cannot assure the birth of this album is so recent.

After ninth song, cuts look more primitive, more simple. Seems like they’re from an early era of the band which is not necessary bad. The band assures they’re the same age as the others so… maybe it’s only my imagination… Examples of this opinion are “TV Brain” or “Drugstore Mama”.
This is a serious work. It doesn’t go only to get you by simple catchy tunes. They even go further to satisfy the most demanding rockers.
To end: a really interesting band I’m sure will have more cool stuff to offer in the future.

Devillac - 2008 - Three Hours To Coma

With a near-to-be disturbing cover, THREE HOURS TO COMA starts with the song which gives title to the album. Is one of those jammie relaxing songs with a bit of western taste... I guess.
But soon you'll enter into DEVILLAC's world with MAN WITHOUT A SPINE. I still remember when I first heard these guys and they're still in the same vein. Also I remember I filed their stuff pretty close to early QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, but they had their own way to understand that weird-stoner they made. Because I believe we all loved KYUSS, so it's supossed to be with QOTSA... but not in my case. I have to recognize sometimes I've got bored listening a whole album of their latest era. This won't happen in any case with DEVILLAC, who will preserve that essence that makes unique a band. Even if you think stoner-rock died some ago or if you firmly believe it never existed, you have to be aware this band is recommended to any into alternative rock scene.

Third song, PB, is one of my fave songs of this ten song album, together with following one. It is catchy, it is fuzzy, it'll make your feet stomp, it'll make you bang your head, it'll make you jump!!!
WINCHESTER is one of those alt-rock/stoner-rock tunes which remembers me one of those songs from that cool band called SUPERCRUISER.
Just to be a bit severe with my finnish friends, instrumentals like MENTAL explore sounds out of their yard... but they do it good!!!

KAMIKAZE could be a recurring tune, but with a wellknown riff so who cares?
WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVE is one of those songs that I'd love to be performed live. A truth fast stoner tune which I'm sure makes DEVILLAC explode over the audience anytime they unload their energy... remember early DOZER?

And to close this highly recommended sweet piece of music, the finishing touch of an almost 8 minutes track which fades out making you wishing more!!! All you have to do is spin again from the beginning to continue the trip...

Go rush for this CD before they run out HERE !!!

Sad News: BOSSK quits

Sad news to receive this info: BOSSK, one of the tips into post rock/ post metal scene, has announced they split up. To those of you who can enjoy these guys on one of their two last shows, don't miss the chance!!!!

from their myspace:
It is with great saddness that I have to type this, but Bossk is no more.
We have decided to call it a day.
Alex has decided that he no longer wants to
be involved in the band, and we cant continue without him.
There wont be a
new album, we have cancelled all the shows we had booked. This may come as a
shock to many people, but things havent been right in the band since Nick and
Rob left earlier this year.
I want to take this opportunity to say a huge
thank you to everyone that has supported us in our time together, we have made
some amazing friends, and shared some great times with a lot of people and none
of this we could have achieved on our own.
There are too many people to thank
for all their help, but special mention goes to everyone at Eyes Of Sound
Records for their constant support. Along with all the staff at Rock Sound
magazine.
The DVD will still be released in October, and we will also be
releasing all our records in a Trilogy before the end of the year. There is talk
of adding additional footage to the DVD, more news on this when its all
decided.
We WILL be doing two final shows, one in Leeds and one in London,
more details on this when we have stuff sorted.
Thanks for the good
times.
Tom

Sad news: The end of DUSTER69

After 9 years, 4 full-length CDs, 4 professional video-clips, 4 Splits and Vinyl Singles and a lot of compilation contributions (Rock Hard Magazine Germany, People Like you Stoner compilation to mention a few) the guys decided to end the chapter of Duster69. We are still proud about the last years and we want to thank all the fans and supporters from 1999-2008.

We say THANK YOU and you can order our farewell compilation NOTHING LEFT (unreleased and rare stuff from 1999-2008, fat full-coloured artwork, linernotes, guests appearances from Calamus, Disengage, Sparzanza, Mother Misery, Stonewall Noise Orchestra) for only 6 Euros right now.
We 4 still rehearse and jam in our Studio, so far only to have fun, and maybe you will hear new music under a new name in the future.

And check out the videoclip DUSTCRUSHER from 2001 on www.myspace.com/duster69

R.I.P. Isaac HAYES

Isaac Hayes was found the 10th of August lying dead beside a still-running treadmill in a downstairs bedroom by his wife at his own house in Memphis.

Isaac Hayes was one of the first black music superstars of the '70s and its voice is one of the most peculiar into (any) music scene.
If you ever loved music, you had to enjoy Mr. Hayes' tunes. I still listen sometimes SHAFT OST...
Rest In Peace, brother.

Maligno - 2007 - Maligno

If we all talk about MALIGNO it is a must to mention the terms doom and southern rock, apart from store them among your best doom-stoner-rocks records on your shelves. That is, taking the cocktail shaker, putting equal parts of TROUBLE and BLACK SABBATH and shake it with the anger of DOWN, together along with late CORROSION OF CONFORMITY's tuned guitars... maybe... or so. In fact, MALIGNO was taking form meanwhile members were touring as a BLACK SABBATH's tribute band.

Anyway, if you are so lucky (clever if you ask for it now) to get MALIGNO's cd, you'll experience the same essence of doom into 2008, which will be the year of their second album. It will be the same feeling like if you discover today THE OBSESSED... if this could happen, heheheheh...

These "never born" arrive from Mexico, for you to know. And the sound could compete with the best producing into the scene all around the world, not for nothing is was produced by Mr. Colin Davis at Imperial Mastering L.A. Their product is a hard work with exceptional results. And I say exceptional because resulst are exactly what they wanted to mean.

Easy to understand if you check the cover of this CD: a big broken brow skull on black background together with in gothic font moniker MALIGNO. With this, what you get inside is what it is expected. Good vibe...

Some musical elements are new for the doomsters but they're not annoying on the final picture so don't worry about purity of this doom piece.

Ten tracks complete this album with no fissures and no filler. The album is almost 50 minutes and believe me you'll think it's shorter when the last track ends. And once you listen the album for a second time, some songs will make you wonder if this or that one you have heard it before some ago, and not because of similarities, which doom-stoner-rock riffs are always full of...

MALIGNO is currently releasing their new album so you better check them out the soonest!!!
